Major Catching Up

I didn't fall of the face of the earth.  I'm still alive.  So here's a quick recap of the past month..

Indiana Beach:
Em and I had way too much fun.  Nicknames galore for the employees, gettin soaked by the stupid pirates during their water show, and just interesting conversations in general.  My favorite quote of the weekend was when we went on the Galaxi ride- "This must be how Justin Wilson feels when he gets in and out of an Indycar."

Queen Pageant:
31 girls.  There were a lot of contestants.  But amazingly it didn't last forever, and the court is a really good group of girls.  The props I built looked awesome, and the entire event was just awesome in general.

Fair:
I live for county fair.  Its my Christmas.  I got to see people that I only see that week, talked with old friends, taught some kids in the rabbit barn, and ate lots of yummy food.  As always, I was on my own cloud nine :)

My next adventure is the Meijer Indy 300 in Sparta, KY.  Its my first IRL not in Indy, and I'm beyond excited!!  I'm sure I'll have lots to talk about after it, so until then keep swinging!

Overcoming Intimidation

So, Monday night I went to Chicago to go dancin at Fizz for the first time.  Everything was fun!  The ride up and back with Fei, Claire, and Scott was great, and I loved gettin to know them better!
So, my greatest fear about goin up there was my inexperience.  I just started dancin in January, and the people that are regulars at Fizz have been dancin for years and usually go out somewhere in Chicago at least once, if not twice a week!  Thankfully, Scott pulled me out for my first dance there, so I became a lot more comfortable since I was dancin with someone I knew, and knew that I hadn't been at it for too long.  So I got several dances throughout the night.
But the highlight for me was gettin to watch all these great dancers.  Watchin them has inspired me, and makes me want to take more lessons and travel to more exchanges and workshops.  I have the bug, and there is no cure..  I was so enthralled that I didn't even take any pictures!!  But now I have a reason for goin back again :)
The drive back was fun.  Claire was drivin, and Scott and I stayed awake the whole way back.  We got back to West Laffy about 4:30am, and then Fei and I proceeded to drive back to Indy.  I dropped Fei off at her house around 5:40am, and I was back at my apartment around 6.  I'm insane, I know..  But then I continued the insanity..

Tuesday night is usually swing at the Jazz Kitchen.  Well, that night the band that usually plays was doin a concert of sorts at the marina at Eagle Creek Park.  So, I decided to go there because it was cheaper to get in to the park then go to the Jazz Kitchen.  So I went, danced a little, and got to tell Doug stories from the previous night's adventure :)  Luckily, the music ended at 8:30, so I was able to go home and finally get some sleep.
Now I'm just patiently waitin for this weekend to get over with so I can begin my next adventure-- Indiana Beach with Em!!  So until next time, keep swinging! :)

Amazing Weekend

Two nights of dancin with some of my favorite people..yay!!  Friday night was Fountain Square and a few of my favorite Night Train people were there, as well as my favorite Naptown people.  Indy Jazz Orchestra was there and played 3 great sets!  And there was a jam circle!  For those that don't know, and jam circle is when everyone forms a big circle on the floor and 2 people go out at a time and basically throw some of their best moves.  I love it because some of my best shots I've taken have happened then!  Then after that, a few people came out to my apartment for some late night blues.  I was a little disappointed with the turnout, but it was the first time we had done this.  But we are goin to try to make it a monthly thing, so hopefully the turnouts get better..

And then there was Saturday!  Doug tagged along with me up to Purdue to dance at the monthly Saturday night jam.  Kelli and Joel both had great sets, and I got to catch up with several of my favorite people that I haven't seen in a while.  And then Hu was havin a blues party at his place, which just happened to be the dorm that he is an RA at.  So I got some more good blues dances in!

And now, I'm goin to Chicago tomorrow night with Fei and Claire to go dancin at Fizz.  I'll be sure to give a big rundown of that first in my next post!  Until then- keep swingin!! :)

Dancin On The Water

Oh swing dancing...  So last night was Lindy on the Canal, where we set up and dance downtown at the canal for 4 hours.  Its always a good time because 1) its swing and 2) its swing.  I'm gettin to know more of the Naptown Stomp people and developing friendships with several of them.

But last night was particularly exciting for me because it was the first time that I dj'ed.  Swing dj'ing is something that I've been wantin to start doin for a while now, so I was pumped when the opportunity came up.  As far as I can tell, everyone like my set even though after I'd already transitioned into some blues music toward the end of my set I had to go back to some regular swing stuff.  But I guess I'm not surprised by that because very few of the Naptown people blues dance.  So I appeased them with a couple more songs, then finished out with a few of my favorite blues songs.  So now I'm in my happy place thanks to last night, and all is well in the world.. :)

Interesting....

Wow, I have a blog.  People that know me know that I'm not usually big on writin stuff like this..  But I've come to a point where I need a place to "think out loud".  I've been livin in the 'big city' for a year now, and am kinda on my own.  All my family lives an hour south, and about 90% of my friends live an hour north.  So I just need a place for my random thoughts or crazy rants.

So, a lil about me..
Photography, swing dancing, music, sports, family and farming are what make me happy.  I'm an artsy hick that loves sports..  You'll learn more about these loves as I post more..
